Fairytale Fashion for Food, Dress Shop & Swap

Monday, January 8, 2018 - 10:15

After the success of its inaugural year, ‘Fairytale Fashion for Food’ is back to provide affordable special occasion dress options and accessories to students, while raising money to provide food for local students in need over the summer months.

With dozens of dresses to choose from in sizes 0-20, students can ‘shop and swap’ at three different locations this year; Park, Woodbury and East Ridge High Schools. Dresses are $20 each or students can choose to bring in a previously gently used dress and ‘swap’ for another dress to take home. Shoppers will also find an array of accessory options for only $5, at each of the events.

This year, there will also be a silent auction at each high school. Glitz! dress shop, previously in the Mall of America, generously donated a selection of formal dresses (valued over $4,000) before going out of business. These dresses will be up for auction with a minimum bid starting at $50.

“Last year we were able to provide over 150 summer food packs to our students in need because of the generosity of our community. This year we are hoping to exceed that number and reach even more families," said Cheryl Jogger, Community Engagement Coordinator for South Washington County Schools. “It’s a win-win event for us to partner with Community Education to host such a fun event where people can donate a dress, buy a dress and at the same time help our students in need. It gives our students an opportunity to pay it forward."

The ‘Shop & Swap’ and Silent Auctions will be held at all three high schools at the following days and times:

  • Park High School:
    Friday, Jan. 19, 6 – 8:30 p.m., Front Entrance
  • Woodbury High School:
    Tuesday, Feb. 13, 6 – 8:30 p.m., Activities Center Hallway
  • East Ridge High School:
    Tuesday, Feb. 20, 6 – 8:30 p.m., Near Cafeteria

If you have formal wear you’d like to donate, Community Education is accepting donations at the District Program Center in Cottage Grove and Community Education office in the lower level of Central Park in Woodbury. Donations will also be collected at each of the Shop & Swap events. All dresses must be in clean, ready-to-wear condition.
