Skoolie Squads to Provide Mobile Learning and Meals During Summer Months

Wednesday, June 13, 2018 - 08:40

Research tells us time and again, healthy, active students make better learners. So we’ve asked ourselves, what can we do to help support students in an active, fun and engaging way this summer when continued engagement in learning is so important in maintaining skills? Enter: the Skoolie Squad. Made up of four team members each, two Skoolie Squads will travel around the Community, including all Kids Club site locations, and engage students in Action Based Learning. Action Based Learning (ABL), is based on the brain research that strongly supports the link between movement and learning. Learning in an obstacle course style layout, students engaged in ABL show improved memory retention, increased focus, improved grades, and less behavioral issues. In addition to ABL, Skoolie Squads will be offering a free mobile library for youth and other creative and movement activities offered by our community partners. And if that’s not enough, Skoolie Squads will also be handing out free food to all youth 18 and under, between June 18 and August 23, during meal times at various locations. For a detailed list of dates, times, and locations of where the Skoolie Squads will be, please visit: www.nokidhungry833.com
